Biography: Two-year starter awarded all-conference honors after his senior and junior seasons. Totals last year included 55 tackles/15 tackles for loss/7.5 sacks after he had 59/15.5/10 as a junior.

Positives: Athletic defensive prospect who can be a disruptive force when motivated. Fluid moving about the field and rarely off his feet. Commands double-team blocks and tough to move off the point of attack. Breaks down well, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and plays with both balance and body control. Keeps his feet off the initial block, quickly changes direction and displays speed pursuing from the back side. Easily defeats blocks, shows speed off the edge and can be a dominant force.

Negatives: Did not play with a sense of urgency last season and disappeared for stretches. Does not consistently chase the action hard if the play is not within his immediate vicinity.

Analysis: Coming into the season Coples was justifiably rated as one of the best senior prospects in the nation. He's an impressive looking athlete who plays big and fast, disrupting plays from all angles. He offers the underlying skills to be a dominant NFL performer if he's willing to pay the price and play at a high level on every snap.
